Swansea University Rowing Club

Welcome to the site of Swansea University Rowing. The club was reinstated 3 years ago and since has gone from strength to strength. This year (2007/2008) the club will be entering a minimum of 8 events including our own varsity race against Cardiff Uni in the 3rd Welsh Boat Race.

Currently the club is based at Swansea Yacht and Sub Aqua Club in the marina. We have one brand new trailer and five boats with a view to Racks and three more competitive boats this season. The water we use is the river Tawe and all year round there is around 4 kilometers of rowable river with a 2 kilometer stetch that two boats can race down.

Training is picking up this season with three members attending a UKCC level2 course for coaching. One of these is also attending a masters in Sport Science at the University where he draws out circuits and gym programmes for crews. There is a standard circuits session every thursday evening and two club water sessions a week on wednesday afternoons and sunday mornings. On top of this crews train seperatly anywhere from 2 to 6 times a week. Cameraderie is born out of these sessions.

With two social secretaries the club is keen to keep morale high and for all its members to make friends and enjoy themselves. The Athletic Union night is every wednesday in PLAY night Club and is probably the most popular student night. Before heading here SURC will visit either the Yacht Club or its sponsor, Ice Bar on Wind St.

All in all it is a club that is designed for students by students so if you fancy having a good time get in contact.

See you on the water.
